Slalom Autotest 29th November 2009
'Changeable' was an apt description for the weather today, heavy showers quickly followed by bright sunshine and rainbows (thankfully we missed the hail that hit Ipswich mid-morning!). However that didn't stop 18 competitors enjoying a really good good day of clubman motorsport, and it was really great to see both a lot of new faces and some old faces that we haven't seen for a while. The cars ranged from the normal Minis, Westfields and Caterhams to Astras, Polo, Fiestas and even a vintage Morgan. The damp conditions meant that the lightweight cars were having to be careful with the throttle to maintain traction, removing a lot of there normal power-to-weight advantage and keeping it pretty even for all. Nothing can be taken away from Andy Donn though as he put in a consistently quick set of times all day in the Astra Sport and just pipped Tony Burchnall in the Fiesta Si to overall FTD.
Andy maintained his #1 spot after the handicap scoring system had been applied, just pipping John Plant in the VW Polo who had been leading for much of the day. 3rd place was taken by the Rebecca Rowles who was impressively sliding father Ian's Westfieldaround. A welcome return back to motorsport and 4th place for Mike Herbert in his Mazda MX-5. The final award for 5th place went to Tamsin Sebba in the Morgan (the 2nd lady of the day to beat her father!).
We hope you all enjoyed your day and will be back to have more fun next year!
